A huge political storm has hit Mumbai after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) disclosed that one voter’s name appeared 103 times across different parts in the city’s draft electoral roll, intensifying the debate over alleged ‘vote theft’ in Maharashtra, reports India Today.
Out of 1.03 crore voters, as many as 4.33 lakh individuals have been registered multiple times, potentially taking the total number of duplicate entries to nearly 11 lakh, BMC stats have revealed.
The BMC clarified that despite such duplication, a voter can cast only one vote. To eliminate these discrepancies, the administration has launched a special campaign from November 23 to December 5 to identify and delete the duplicate entries.
