The MRCC or Mumbai unit of the Congress has demanded that the list of more than 11 lakh duplicate voters in the city and suburbs be made public, raising concerns over transparency and fair play ahead of elections.
Citing that nearly 10.64 percent of Mumbai’s 1.03 crore electorate reportedly have duplicate enrolments, Mumbai Congress President and MP Varsha Gaikwad, along with MLAs Amin Patel and Jyoti Gaikwad, met the State Election Commissioner to highlight the issue.
Gaikwad said that the presence of duplicate names has created confusion among citizens. The delegation questioned why the Election Commissioner has not published the list of duplicate voters and sought clarity on the action to be taken regarding affidavits and forms linked to these duplicate entries. They also demanded that fake affidavits should face legal scrutiny.
